Welcome to the best friend tag. There is a widespread belief out there that internet friends are not “real friends.” However, I know that that is not true. As it happens, I have met most of my friends via the internet.
So, for this post, I thought that I would do the best friend tag and introduce you all to my friend Michaela (aka. Mitch) from New Zealand; We have never met in person, but, through social media, we have become close friends.
The Best Friend Tag
Where are you from?
Mitch: Auckland, New Zealand
Melissa: Vancouver, Canada
How and when did you meet?
Mitch: We met on Twitter in 2014 and our first twitter interaction with one another was regarding tea (hardly surprising!)
What’s your favorite memory together?
Mitch: Receiving postcards from Melissa’s part of the world – it was such a sweet idea and so lovely to have a part of Canada arrive in my mailbox.
Melissa: Our nightly facebook messages when we discuss life, pets, and tea (of course).
I also love when I receive a package of Kiwi treats – Mitch spoils me. I send her Canadian tea in return.
Describe each other in one word.
Mitch: Melissa is lovely
Melissa: Mitch is Lovelier
What’s your dream job?
Mitch: My dream job is to be an author, but publishing would be awesome too.
Melissa: My dream job is to become a full-time blogger or writer.
What’s your favorite makeup brand?
Mitch: Bobbi Brown
Melissa: Rimmel London
If you could go anywhere in the world together, where would it be and why?
Mitch: Melissa and I have talked about how cool it would be to visit each other’s countries. So, we would love to see Canada and then New Zealand or vice versa.
Melissa: What Mitch said. After those countries, though, we would go to London or Scotland.
Favorite inside joke?
Mitch: The ex-PM of New Zealand had some funny expressions, so Melissa and I had fun putting his face in different scenarios.
Melissa: Haha, gosh I miss our John Key memes. However, you can’t forget this gem, Mitch …
Mitch: The Penalty by Beirut
Melissa: I don’t really have a favourite song. I love a lot of music. However, if I HAD to name a song I would say Colour Decay by Júníus Meyvant.
Mitch: Black Swan Green by David Mitchell
Melissa: An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth by Col. Chris Hadfield
Mitch: The Aristocats
Melissa: Inside Out
What is it like being best friends with someone who lives on the other side of the world.
Mitch: It is amazing – I am so lucky to have met Melissa, who I call my twin as we are very very similar in a lot of ways. It is so cool to have learnt so much about Canada and to have taught Melissa so much about New Zealand too. We are big tea people so I like to think of chatting to Melissa, (even though it is online and there are miles between us) as being like having a cuppa tea with my best friend.
Melissa: I am so lucky to have Mitch as my friend, we are incredibly similar and share most of the same interests.
I have learned so much about New Zealand from Mitch; I can’t wait to visit one day.
If I ever go missing in New Zealand, it is because Mitch and her cat kidnapped me.
Heels or flats?
Pants or dresses?
Melissa: Pants (although I am not opposed to wearing a dress).
Melissa: The Brushtail Possum
If your house was burning down, and your entire family was sure to be okay, what would you save and why?
Mitch: I have a really special necklace given to me by my boyfriend last Christmas, which would be super important to save as it has a lot of sentimental value.
Melissa: Since I consider my dogs my family (who are okay). I would save My laptop, haha. My life is on my laptop; My photos, my blog work … everything.
Comedy, horror, or chick-flick?
Blackberry or iPhone?
Melissa: iPhone, but Android is my first choice.
What is something weird that you eat?
Mitch: In New Zealand we have something called “pineapple lumps” which is kind of like pineapple-flavoured taffy coated in chocolate. I love them frozen.
Melissa: I eat tartar sauce on my french fries (or chips in Kiwi speak); I have been told that’s weird.
What’s your favorite TV show?
Mitch: Downton Abbey
Melissa: Currently, my favourite show is Flight of the Conchords.
I hope that you have enjoyed reading this best friend interview.
Many thanks to Michaela for allowing me to make a blog post about her and for regularly supplying me with Kiwi treats like Pineapple Lumps.
