Throughout the years, one of my favourite weekly rituals has always been going out to coffee with my mum; Every Wednesday when my mum gets home from work, we spend 20 or so minutes catching up over coffee.
However, this tradition, like many other things, was stolen from me when I developed agoraphobic anxiety.
Recently, though, I decided it was the right time to resume these ‘dates’ and take baby steps into the world again. As challenging as I thought it would be, I knew that I would have to go out at some point.
As such, my mum and I picked a local coffee shop called The Modern General Store as our first outing together. I can say that we made a marvelous choice; I now have a new favourite shop.
What I Love About The Modern General Store
The design of The Modern General Store has a beautiful, rustic feel to it. There is one center table and a few tables on the surrounding patio outside.
The layout of the store is open, with several encompassing windows. As a result, I don’t feel crowded as an agoraphobic.
The Modern General Store has an amazing staff led by owner, Laura. Each time I visit the cafe, everyone is happy, attentive, and helpful.
One of the best things about The Modern General Store is that they don’t just carry (locally branded) coffee, tea, and pastries. Oh No, they carry just about everything, including flowers/plants, basic grocery needs, and apothecary knick knacks. I will likely never be anxious in The Modern General Store as I’m too busy looking at all the new goodies.
Overall, I believe that I have fallen in love with The Modern General Store; the staff, the owner, and the products all make this shop a treasure. I sincerely wish the business the best of luck as I have a feeling that they will be seeing a lot of me.
If you ever happen to be in South Surrey, I highly recommend checking this cafe out; You won’t regret it.
As a final note, I would love to thank Laura and her staff for such positive experiences; You have all made my first steps back into the world a little less painful.
